Together, We Can END IT!

Just imagine you have $90 in your hand right now.  What could you buy with that money?  A new outfit?  Four books?  Your phone bill?  The list goes on and on.  Now imagine a person being sold for that amount of money.  Sad, right?  I bet you are thinking: Alexandrea, how on Earth could a human being only be worth $90?  Well, statically, that is the average cost for a person bought and sold in human trafficking rings.  And this is not just one person: I am talking about 27 million people.  That is 27 million men, women, and children bought and sold like animals.  27 million families missing their loved one who never came home one day.

Let that sink in for a moment.

How would you feel if one of those people was a member of your family?  What if your mom or dad, your sister or brother, your aunt and uncle, your cousins, or your friends became a victim of human trafficking?  What would you do then?

Personally, I would go to the ends of the earth and beyond if it meant I had the chance of saving my family and friends.  I would travel the world searching, fight whoever I needed to, and spend every last dime I own in order to save them.

And worst of all, only 1% of those victims are ever rescued.

1% of 27 Million.  Tragic, really.  Some of you are probably wondering why that is.  The fact is, not many people realize that slavery still exists.  Many Americans believe that slavery ended over a century ago with the 13th Amendment.  What they do not realize is that slavery is still a wide spread 'business' that plagues our society.  Human trafficking is currently the largest criminal enterprise in the world.  It generates a revenue of over $150 BILLION each year.  That is insane!

Human beings like you and I are being bought and sold all over the world, being forced to do unimaginable things, while the vast majority are blind to this growing problem.  That is why I have dedicated myself to being an 'A Team' advocate for A21, a worldwide organization that 'prevents trafficking through awareness, education, and prosecution, while restoring survivors by providing protection and rehabilitation.'

One of A21's more recent campaign is 'Can You See Me?'  It is a campaign that aims to reach more victims and catch more criminals through awareness.  The goal?  Turning awareness into action.  Below is a video of the 'Can You See Me?' movement:

Make a Difference

A21 is also one of the top coalition partners for the End It Movement, an organization who sponsors 'Shine a Light on Slavery Day' which is TODAY!  Like my friends at A21 and I, you too can make a difference by shining a light on slavery.  Start by simply drawing a red X on your hand and posting a picture on all social media platforms with #enditmovement and tagging @A21 and @enditmovement (also tag @BlondewithBooks for a chance to be featured on my accounts).  Another way to spread awareness is to make your own End It poster.  For more details, click here.

If you would like to learn more information about human trafficking or send a donation to fund the rescue and rehabilitation of trafficking victims, please visit the A21 or End It Movement websites.

It is not going to be easy, but if we work together, we can end it!
